What does 75 Mbps Internet mean?

75 Megabits per second refers to the speed of downloading content such as songs or videos from online sources. We believe this is the ideal Internet speed for busy and active households that have multiple users and connected devices. And you don’t need to worry how much you download, as the service comes with unlimited usage.

What Wi-Fi modem is included?

We provide a Smart RG 808 AC Wi-Fi modem as part of our Home Run Internet. It is a high-powered modem that provides strong and consistent Wi-Fi throughout your home. More details regarding this modem can be found at https://www.smartrg.com/product/residential-gateways/docsis/sr808ac/ The modem rental fee is included in the monthly cost of Home Run Internet.

Why is Home Run Internet only available in Ottawa?

We are only in offering this new service in Ottawa for the initial phase. Our plan is to expand to other regions in the near future.

Why does an Internet technician need to come to my home?

A technician needs to redirect your home Internet connection to our Distributel network. This is standard for all of our plans. If possible, this work will be done entirely outside your home. If access is required inside your home, we will ask for permission before entering your home and are closely following Health Canada Guidelines.

As an added benefit, Home Run Internet customers will also receive the Geek Squad In-Home Set-up. A professionally trained Geek Squad Agent will ensure that your Wi-Fi modem is set-up and optimized and that all of your devices are connected and protected.

How will I receive and get my modem set up?

As soon as you sign up for Home Run Internet, we will immediately ship your modem. It usually takes about 3 business days to arrive. The package includes instructions to install the modem. If you prefer you can call Geek Squad, and they can walk you through the set-up, or hold off and have your Geek Squad Agent install the modem as part of your In-Home Set up.

What is the total cost of Home Run Internet?

The regular monthly cost of this plan is $85 per month plus taxes (on a 12-month commitment). There is a one-time activation fee of $30.00 and a $10.00 delivery fee for the modem.

Limited Time Offer: $69.95 per month for the first 3 months on a 12-month commitment.

Why do I need to make a 12-month commitment?

We are confident that you will want to continue with this exciting new service. However, if for any reason you decide to cancel before 12 months, you will be charged $200.00, which is the value of the Geek Squad Home Set Up. You will also be required to return the modem and your Geek Squad Home Membership will be cancelled immediately.

This service gives you 24/7 tech support online and over the phone, plus discounts on in-home and in-store services for all your connected devices, no matter where you bought them.

It also includes premium Internet security and antivirus software to protect all the applicable devices in your home. And it gives you ongoing data backups of your home computer and mobile devices including 1 TB of cloud storage – which is huge!

What additional service do I get exclusive discounts on?

While 24/7 tech support online and over the phone is included, sometimes you may want face to face service whether that be in a Best Buy store or in your home. Your membership means you can have these in person services at approximately 50% off, including computer or tablet set up or repairs, installing and setting up televisions, home theaters and smart home devices.

Members also receive special pricing on some instore products such as batteries, ink and toner. From time to time Geek Squad may also offer exclusive limited time offers via optional opt-in emails.

How long will my Geek Squad Home Membership last?

As long as you are enjoying Home Run Internet you will continue to receive all the benefits of this service, including Geek Squad Home Membership.

How do I schedule my Geek Squad In-Home Set Up?

Once we have confirmed your Internet technician appointment, we will send you an email with the details to contact Geek Squad to arrange your In-Home Set Up. Please ensure your Geek Squad In-Home Set-up is at least 24 hours after your Internet technician appointment.

What will the Geek Squad Agent do during my In-Home Set-Up?

Your Geek Squad Agent will install the Wi-Fi modem and router, as well as network enhancement to ensure you have strong and consistent Wi-Fi throughout your home. The agent will also connect your connected devices. They will ensure you are fully protected by installing and setting up Internet security and data back-up software on all applicable devices.

How long is the In-Home Set Up?

Geek Squad Agents are trained, experienced and able to work very efficiently. The typical Home Set Up takes about an hour, even in larger more complicated homes, no more that 90 minutes.

What do I need to do to get ready for my Geek Squad In-Home Set-Up?

Geek Squad will contact you the day before your appointment to confirm the time and to provide you with information regarding your In-Home Set-Up.

Remember to have the Wi-Fi modem handy, when the Agent arrives.

What safety precautions are being taken?

Nothing is more important to Best Buy and Distributel than the safety of our customers and employees. That’s why we’re closely following Health Canada’s guidelines. Here are the important steps we’re taking before, during and after your Geek Squad In-Home Set-Up to keep everyone safe:

Before your in-home service

We'll call you at least 24 hours in advance of our visit to go over the following:

  • Let you know that we'll be following Health Canada’s guidelines to keep everyone protected.
  • Let you know that the employee(s) visiting your home are not ill.
  • Confirm that you are not ill with flu-like symptoms or in quarantine from possible exposure to COVID-19.
  • Discuss the safety precautions we'll be taking during your in-home service.
  • Confirm that you'd like to proceed with your in-home service.

If you're ill or quarantined, or if you don't want to continue with the appointment, we can reschedule your appointment for a later date.

Here’s how we’ll prepare for our visit:

  • Before reporting for work, we perform a self-health check.
  • We wear clean clothes for each workday.
  • We perform a health check with a manager before heading to your home.
  • We restock our vehicles with masks, gloves, disinfectant wipes and spray, workspace cones, trash bags and more.
  • We clean and disinfect our laptops and mobile devices.

During your in-home service

What you can expect before the work:

  • We'll put on protective gear before we enter your home.
  • We'll keep a 6-foot distance from you as we enter (and for the duration of our visit).
  • We'll go over the five points from our phone call once again.
  • We’ll take these actions to keep everyone safe during the work:
  • We’ll use protective gear.
  • We'll prepare a workspace by marking a perimeter that gives us enough room to work in, and that provides a safe amount of distance from you and your family.
  • We'll clean and disinfect all surfaces we'll be touching. We'll also follow manufacturer guidelines and use the correct material to safely clean your product.
  • After the work is complete, we'll provide a demo of your product, with you watching at a safe distance.

After your in-home service

Our safety precautions continue even after we leave your home. Before our next in-home visit, we'll clean and disinfect all tools and supplies. And when we return to our Best Buy location at the end of the day, we will:

  • Place returned products or haul-away items in a designated area to be quarantined and sanitized.
  • Properly dispose of all safety supplies and trash.
  • Clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces in our vehicles.
  • File only the minimum required paperwork for each in-home service (which no customer has ever touched).
  • Wash our clothing and reusable materials at home.
